Quote of the Day: The “Energy Bill”

From Ben Lieberman, Capitalism Magazine Online:

In the hands of Congress, the energy bill has morphed into a farm bill, an environmental bill, and above all else, a massive pork-barrel bill. But what we really need is a true energy bill, one that frees energy markets from unnecessary regulatory constraints and opens up new sources of supply.

Those who believe this Congress’s majority party is instinctively in favor of free markets need to reconsider that belief.

  1. For a long time I thought it was a good idea to have a President of one party over a Congress controlled by the other party…gridlock could only be a good thing for us….I was blinded by the idea of a President and Congress being controlled by “conservative” republicans….I long for the good ole days of gridlock…and will be voting accordingly in 2006 and 2008.

  2. It’s pretty hard to finesse a gridlock, but I get the concept. I personally think that GOPers voting for this bill and esp the Highway Pork bill need primary challenges, as you have possibly seen me say elsewhere:
