Positivity: “Ultimate Love Story” Ends

Filed under: Positivity — Tom @ 7:07 am

After 57 years:

ANDERSON TWP. – Millie and Russ Ackermann, who were married for 57 years, started out as pals when they met at Withrow High School. Both were on the equestrian team, and in the same German class.

They went to the University of Cincinnati together, where Russ decided he wanted to be more than just friends with Millie Streicher. And she decided the same.

Their daughters described their lives together as a love story.

It ended last week when they died within 12 hours of one another at their home here. He was 79 and she was 78.

Their love encompassed their family and their community. Russ served four terms on Madeira City Council, while Millie put in more than 4,000 hours volunteering at Shriners Hospital.

Their first date was in February 1947. Millie wrote in her diary, “I had a wonderful time. I like Russ.” After a couple more dates, she wrote, “I had a great time. I love Russ.”

They married on July 24, 1948. When they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, their youngest daughter, Leslie Gibbs of Fairfield, asked her mother what the secret was.

“After all these years, I still have a crush on your Daddy,” she said.
