Positivity: “Sound Of Music” Cast Reunites After 40 Years

Filed under: Positivity — Tom @ 6:12 am

The cast of perhaps the greatest musical of all time, and (on an inflation-adjusted bases) the third highest-grossing film ever, got together in New York last Thursday:

The big apple was alive Thursday night, with the Sound of Music! The event marked the reunion of the cast to celebrate the 40th anniversary and DVD release of one of the world’s most famous musicals.

The faces may not be recognizable all grown up. But its hard not to remember those adorable Von-Trapp children and their singing governess. Well it’s been 40 years since they do-re-mie’d and came alive “to the sound of music.” And in celebration of the movie that’s been loved for so long, the group reunited for the first time.

“It’s a great story, it’s about love, it’s about honor it’s about decency,” said Julie Andrews, who played Maria in the movie.

Liesl Von Trapp’s famous “I am 16-going on 17″ lyrics have aged.

“I am 60 going on 70, I know that I’m naïve,” sang Charman Carr, who played Liesl.

Little Gretl is all grown up, and has trouble remembering all those siblings.

“We have Liesl, Freidrich, Brigitta, Gretl, Marta and we’re missing one – Louisa. Kurt! Did I forget Kurt?” said Kym Karath who played the youngest sibling.

But one thing that hasn’t changed is how much these actors cherish their movie memories and still like to sing

“I hate to go and leave this pretty sight,” sang Debbie Turner, who played Marta Von Trapp.

The party was not only a chance for the cast members to reunite, but also an opportunity for one of the real life Von-Trapp children to spend time with the people who made his family so famous.

Raindrops on roses… “and whiskers on kittens; bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens,” sang Joyhonnes Von Trapp.

Yes, he still sings too. After four decades…”the Sound of Music” apparently still sounds pretty good.

“All of it now in retrospect was a very happy experience,” said matriarch of both the family and the group, Julie Andrews.
