Union Cash Keeps Kids Warm
Updated: 01/12/2006 08:57:45 AM

A local union has stepped forward to help children in need, stay warm this winter.

Members of UAW 696 at the Delphi Needmore plant donated nearly 400 coats, all purchased with money the union members donated to the United Way, earmarked to go to Dayton Public Schools.

“I watch ‘em going home each day.. some don’t have coats.. and when that weather gets cold. Man, they need ‘em. And we’re excited these organizations thought it worthy to support this for our kids,” said Dayton Public Schools Superintendent Percy Mack.

One by one the kids picked out a coat and gloves, boys and girls, all sizes, all with a smile. And those smiles are what it’s all about for the union members.

“The reward is seeing the smiles on the kids and knowing in some small way we were able to help kids who were not as fortunate as our kids are,” said UAW 696 President Joe Buckley.
