The Cincinnati Enquirer Invisibler: AWOL on a Big Story, Late on Another

Filed under: MSM Biz/Other Ignorance — TBlumer @ 3:32 pm

This is not a political post, it is a media coverage post.

Two big Ohio political stories happened late this week:

STORY ONE

“Republicans Trip on Filing Rules” — The Secretary of State put out a memo on Thursday afternoon, February 9 (link is to a converted but textually intact version of what was a PDF docment), relating to important technical requirements for filing petitions and collecting signatures in advance of the February 16 filing deadline.

ALL of Ohio’s papers were late to or not on this story, and it appears that only the Plain Dealer understands its full scope. But you’ll note at the News search link that The Cincinnati Enquirer Invisibler has nothing online (I have determined that nothing made the print editions Friday or Saturday). They don’t even have anything at the Politics Extra Blog as of the original post time of this entry. To be “fair,” as noted, several of the other “biggies” in the state also appear to be AWOL, at least based on the News search.

STORY TWO

Two aides to Ohio governors were charged with ethics violations late Friday. The Invisibler had nothing online until about 10 hours ago, and nothing in its Saturday print edition. The print edition should have had a story. There is still nothing at the Invisibler’s Politics Extra blog. Several Ohio papers were well ahead of the Invisibler.

Both stories appear to have local implications that are from all appearances not being explored.

All very, very weak. If the Invisibler thinks follow-up on these stories can wait until the coffee gets brewed on Monday morning, they are out, of, touch.

UPDATE: The R-Rated WhistleBlower notes the absence of coverage of what I referred to as “Petitiongate” in an e-mail to him.
