Positivity: Katrina Survivor Walks Again after Miracle Surgery
A nice touch — A “graduation“:
LITTLETON, Colo. A woman who moved to Colorado after Hurricane Katrina forced her out of her home, graduated on Thursday from the Life Care Center of Littleton. It took a miracle surgery and a lot of hard work.
Last year, Annie Avery had surgery on her spine in New Orleans and her doctor handed down a life sentence.
“She said ‘you know you’re paralyzed,’” Avery said.
When she arrived in Denver, Dr. Sean Markey decided to try surgery one more time although he wasn’t very optimistic.
“I had actually told her family that I didn’t think that she would ever be able to walk again,” Dr. Markey said.
After her surgery and therapy, Avery can walk up stairs.
“I need a job, I got to go back to work,” Avery said.
Avery was rewarded with a graduation ceremony for successfully completing the rehab therapies at the Littleton center.
“I hate to go because I’m leaving behind loved ones and friends that I made,” Avery said.
