#3, Thanks. I have always been under the impression that as officers of the court, they are effectively under oath, but you explained the distinction.

I agree. However, I did want to point out that neither the prosecutor or the defense attorney is "under oath" any time he or she is in a courtoom. An attorney will not be prosecuted for perjury for something they said in court. There is an ethical obligation to restrain the duty to be a zealous adversary within the boundaries of what the attorney reasonably believes may be true.

But that's beside the point. Ship 'em back to Guatemala and see if the parents there really consider it part of their culture.

#1, that's why there are LEGAL channels for immigration. At least in theory, you're going to have a chance to screen out the people who don't buy into our culture. With open borders, you have no chance. The Wall Street Journal open borders types have absolutely no appreciation of this.

Some of the more recent wave of immigrants (particularly the illegal ones) seem to forget that that coming to this country involves an implicit rejection of their home culture. If ya can't handle that we treat women better here then don't come here. Send him back to whichever backward country he comes from after a hopefully unenjoyable stay in prison.
