Drudge Joins the Out of Touch

Filed under: Business Moves, MSM Biz/Other Ignorance, News from Other Sites — TBlumer @ 6:12 am

I don’t know how else to explain Drudge, who in many ways can be seen as the original blogger with a outsized headline stream, ripping into Michelle Malkin’s pioneering web site Hot Air with such a vengeance on his radio show Sunday:

Maybe we’ll do, uh, uh, a commentary on the Internet like Michelle Malkin. Maybe I’ll stand in front of like a blue screen and hold a banana and start talking into the Internets. (Sneering tone) ‘This is Matt Drudge reporting on Hot Air.’ Agggh. You know. It’s ridiculous. Looks like, you know, Captain Kangaroo time, Michelle. Get real.

In fact, Drudge can be seen as more like a pajama-clad blogger than Malkin has ever been (or for that matter, Bryan Preston). Give Drudge props for his ridiculously great sources, but when’s the last time you saw him out in the world covering a news event?

Matt, the world’s big enough for both of you. Zheesh.

  1. Michelle Malkin and Byran from Hot Air threw the first punches in the Malkin vs. Drudge show down, you can find their first round of Drudge dissing here and here. Interesting how Michelle feigns victim status when she is the one that called me and Drudge “The conservative outing mob.”

  2. Wild Bill, Drudge’s response to a substantive criticism (agree or disagree, the Foley page-outing controversy was a legitimately debatable issue, and Malkin’s opinion was substantive criticism) is to name call (“Captain Kangaroo”). Not very mature. I don\’t think Malkin has done anything that justified for the shot Drudge took, and please don’t turn this into a debate over her merits or demerits; I will not participate. This is about Drudge’s attitude.

Listen to him long enough, and you learn Drudge has had a hard time accepting blogs in general. Given how he got to where he is, it is a stunning blind spot.

  3. This is just the latest example of Drudge voicing his disdain for blogs. It is understandable when a Dan Rather dinosaur can not handle the existence of blogs. It is perplexing when someone like Drudge (who only exists as a celebrity because of the internet) shows disdain for the next steps (video blogging, etc) in internet reporting/commentary. It reeks of jealousy.

  4. What news is this? Perhaps this is just Drudge blowing some “Hot Air”.
