Huckabee on Romney and Goodridge: FINALLY

Filed under: Taxes & Government — TBlumer @ 6:38 am

Hot Air’s headline is:

Romney should have ignored the Massachusetts
Supreme Court’s ruling on gay marriage.

To which I say, “Been there, have known that.”

For 8-1/2 long, painful months.

Massachusetts residents have known this for over four much longer, much more painful years. The nation didn’t grasp the significance of what Romney did when he did it, and those who could have and should have alerted us didn’t — for whatever reasons (or is it rea$on$?).

Plus, two things:

  1. It was Romney’s constitutional duty to ignore the ruling without a law passed by the Legislature.
  2. The same goes for Arnold Schwarzenegger more recently in California.

Allahpundit at Hot Air could not be more wrong, and dangerously so, when he says, ” If the governor gets to pick and choose which rulings to enforce, we’re forever on the brink of a constitutional crisis.” That is totally not what this is about.

Hopefully, most of the hundreds of commenters at Allah’s post are telling him that, but I fear I am an over-optimist.

Why Huckabee is right is the core reason why Mitt Romney has been, is, and will continue to be, Objectively Unfit.

Better late than never, I suppose, but where has Mike Huckabee been?

Big worry: Huckabee’s statement is a Hail Mary to prevent a Romney-leaning McCain from pulling the trigger.

If McCain picks Romney, the base stays home, or at a minimum doesn’t vote in the Prez race.

Silver lining, or wishful thinking? Romney’s move to California, if it was made for political reasons, only makes sense if you think he’s positioning himself for a 2010 gubernatorial run. This would mean that he has never expected, or has been told not to expect, to be named McCain’s Veep. But every mention of Romney’s name as a Veep selection candidate during the past several months has increased Golden State voter awareness of him.

  1. OK, how many times did governor Huckabee do an Andy Jackson impersonation over actions from his state supreme court.

    My guess is zero.

  2. #1, that would be a good guess. Doesn’t mean that he didn’t get something right — for once (geez, I’m saying that a lot recently :–>).

  3. Despite the Dems and the allied main stream media’s desperation to see Romney as McCain’s Veep, Mitt is clearly out, with (1) Obama doubling down on the class warfare theme (McCain’s 7 houses) and (2) McCain doubling down with ads showing the hypocrisy of Biden attacking Obama in the primaries — Romney did way more than that contra McCain.

This leaves only Govs Sarah Palin and Tim Pawlenty. Pro-abortion Ridge and Dem-Lieberman were never real considerations, despite relentless media goading. Pawlenty’s lackluster TV performances, coupled with Palin pizzazz, the primacy of oil drilling and the ticked off women/Hillary voters, does now portend a McCain/Palin checkmate on the Dems. This is so albeit the Dems and liberal media dare not mention Palin’s name, that is, everyone but…..

And if there’s any question as to Palin being uniquely positioned and able to more than nullify Biden in debate, see the excellent discussion at palinforvp.blogspot.com

    Team McCain, well done!!!

  4. #3, Palin would be a great choice.

  5. Palin? According to her bio she is a Member of the National Rifle Association, she could be McCain’s Dick Cheney… Hmmm, a definite positive.

I’m not seeing any big negatives, yet, other than losing a sitting GOP governor. The positive of course is she has executive experience running a bureaucracy something McCain does not.
