Things I’d Like to Post About Today ….. (082908, Morning)

….. But I Don’t Have Any Time For:

  • John McCain is having a hard time filling his Dayton appearance today, for one reason — Instead of making it crystal clear that he’s going to choose a legitimately prolife sensible conservative, McCain has been sending trial balloons out about unacceptable alternatives. Who wants to go and then be cajoled into pretending that someone who opposes their core values is okay? Paraphrasing a discussion I had yesterday with someone you might ordinarily expect to attend — Conservatives have lives, and other perfectly interesting things to do, and need to have a compelling reason to get involved. They aren’t interested in being led into possible traps.
  • Chad Baus at Buckeye Firearms says (paraphrasing), “Lifelong Republican my a**” (HT Michelle Malkin). Anyone who thinks that  “The One” I refer to as “Mr. BOOHOO-OUCH” (Barack O-bomba Overseas HusseinObambiObama - Objectively Unfit Coddler of Haters) isn’t going to take away guns, or nominate Supreme Court justices who will do it for him, hasn’t been paying attention.
  • About the only specific thing Obama said last night was “I’ve got news for you, John McCain. We all put our country first.” Translation: We’re patriotic too. If that’s so, it has been hard to tell.
  • There was soccer match in Iraq. The Associated Press says “tens of thousands” attended. Clever, AP. The headlined “sellout crowd” was at a stadium “with a capacity of 50,000,” but it took until the fourth paragraph for readers to learn that. Additionally, the successful event “was not marred by crowd violence or a terrorist attack, a sign that security forces are asserting more control in the capital.” Alternative explanation: It may also be that the Iraq people as a whole are more interested in having fun than in killing each other.
  • Given what’s involved, the subheadline at this article is perfect — “A BBC news girl attacked TV yesterday for failing to show viewers the Taliban’s “humanity.” Only a naive 49 year-old little girl could, in the midst of news about how the Taliban are skinning alive those they capture, complain that the media aren’t covering “the humanity of the Taliban, because they are a wide, very diverse group of people.”
  • The Associated Press has been babbling Obama bromides only about 97.283% of the time. Keith Olbermann can’t handle it (”MSNBC Host Rips AP Reporter’s Analysis of Obama Speech”; HT Noel Sheppard at NewsBusters). Imagine that: Noting that a speech short on specifics was ….. short on specifics.

  1. Tom said, “Who wants to go and then be cajoled into pretending that someone who opposes their core values is okay?”

That pretty much sums up my feeling toward the Republican Party in general.

    Blog on brother!

  2. Governor Palin doesn’t believe in evolution or global warming…and named her sons “Track” and “Trig”…what sort of wacko is this?

  3. #2, I understand much of the legitimate science of evolution, but I don’t believe that we evolved from microbes without some form of intelligent design, as the evolutionary extremists insist.

I also don’t believe in man-made global warming. I’m not alone.

    Take your wacko accusations elsewhere.
