RE: ...Pre-natal Post

I am not a doctor or nurse, so take this for what little is worth; from personal experience:

- According to the most popular book on pregnancy, "What to Expect when You're Expecting"(*),
it is true that there is a Risk of infection once you're water breaks.
The quote from the Sacramento, CA, doctor should be made note of for anyone expecting now or in the future, for situational awareness.

- BUT, if infection is so risky, then WHY DID my hospital almost send me home?
My water broke during the night on my first pregnancy. I figured this out after multiple trips to the bathroom, and wondering if this minor leakage meant anything. To try to keep a personal story to the bare facts:
-- Water broke in middle of the night
-- After 2nd (or 3rd?) trip to bathroom, decided to stay awake in living room, and see if my Pregnancy Book said anything
-- Ended up finding the section on water breaking; it said to call your doctor
-- I did call. Sleep doctor said: (a) No worries, report to the hospital first thing in normal morning hours.
     (b) Expect labor pains to begin in an hour or so.
-- Relaxed for a bit (probably 30 min?). At almost normal wake-up time, turned on bedroom light and alerted hubby: "It's time to go".
-- "Just five for minutes", he said, rolling over and covering his face from the light.
-- "No, dear. IT's TIME to go." / "Ohhh, that time..."
-- Sure enough, after getting dressed and just leaving, on the road to hospital, the first labor pain (not Bracton Hicks) came: wheeww.
-- Then, at the hospital, They Didn't Believe ME!! (since I was 2 weeks early).
I was ALMOST SENT HOME. The labor pains had kinda dissapated (I think, because my body was tired and sleepy. I actually fell asleep
for 10 minutes in the Exam room, waiting for a Nurse to first see me.) With some wiggling on the bed, and the Nurse re-testing,
the Swab did turn PINK for amniotic fluid, rather than the yellow golden-flow fluid. Yeah, They were going to let me stay!
-- Skipping to the end: So, I got moved to a real Birthing Room, the Doc arrived on schedule, and a few hours later: Healthy BABY :-)

-- So, Bottom Line, the relevancy to your post:
If infection from your water breaking is so dang bad, why would I have been allowed (well, SENT) home?
Yes, infection is risk; and, more important, if you think you're water broke, labor is coming and get to a hospital.
But Palin may have gotten different advice about the level of risk, and waited to get to her regular personal doctor.

(*) My copy would be dated some 10 years ago, or so; therefore, doctor's advice may have changed.

To heck with six dishonest words from Colmes. After this and other vile comments from Colmes, I want six honest words from Hannity "I will not work with Colmes."

Hannity has to show if he has standards. If he is aware of this (and there is no way he isn't) he needs to show whether that is a person he is willing to associate with.
