Obama v. Palin: The Contrast Could Not Be More Stark
From Barack Obama, March 29, 2008:
“….. look, I’ve got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.”

Statement today from Sarah and Todd Palin (HT NixGuy):
ST. PAUL — Gov. Sarah Palin and her husband Todd Palin have released this statement following news that their daughter, Bristol, is pregnant –
“We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.
“Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi’s privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates.”

UPDATE: I didn’t see Michelle Malkin’s post before I did this, but we’re surely on the same page — “One ticket sees this as a blessing. The other sees it as a curse. Could the core differences between the two be any starker?”
UPDATE 2: Ann Althouse (HT Allah at Hot Air), on another, and very different, stark contrast.

You’re correct. The contrast could not be more stark. Obama was making the case for sex education. Palin is opposed to teaching kids anything more than abstinence.

Look, if it wasn’t for out-of-wedlock births to teen mothers, there’d be no B. Hussein, or for that matter, a viable Democrat Party.

#1, No, Obama was making the case for sex education inextricably coupled with abortion. That’s not arguable. If all else fails, and you feel you need to avoid being “punished with a baby,” you abort. That this is Obama’s position is not arguable.
Our side calls babies “bundles of joy,” even in difficult circumstances. The other side, unless the circumstances are perfect, according to whatever whimsical personal definition is involved, calls them “punishment.”
The contrast could not be more stark, or less arguable.

No, Tom. Obama was talking about sex education in response to “a question about how his administration, if he’s elected, would deal with the issue of HIV and AIDS and also sexually transmitted diseases with young girls.”

More importantly, you are sadly mistaken in your belief that “sex education inextricably coupled with abortion.” We could, for example, choose to provide comprehensive sex education, for the purposes of disease prevention, family planning and abstinence promotion, while simultaneously limiting or outlawing abortion.

#4, Nope, the acceptability of abortion, even partial-birth abortion, even post-birth murder by neglect, appears to be in his DNA. He wouldn’t sponsor what he has sponsored and voted as he has if it weren’t the case.
You can spin it all you want, but his beliefs, clearly stated in his statements and in his votes, are what they are.
I am not the one espousing a set of core “values” that says that sex education is inextricably coupled with abortion (because if prevention methods don’t work and “punishment” has to be avoided, abortion has to be there). HE is, and that isn’t arguable.

Tom, he made no such argument. Those are your words. But it is your blog, so you will, as always, have the last word. Have a good night.

Palin doesn’t even beleive in any contraceptive not even condoms or birth control. If you have teenage daughter and you’re never at home to busy chasing your dreams, the least you can do is talk to her about the birds and the bees and how to protect herself. Don’t leave the poor child to find out on her own.

#8, My my, aren’t we pre-feminists all of a sudden. Wonder if you felt that way about Michelle Obama being gone from her two daughters all day at her hospital gig while her husband is away in Washington? Hmmm?
