Things I’d Like to Post About Today ….. (011009, Morning)

….. But I Don’t Have Any Time For:

  • Reuters writer Ed Stoddard finds “experts” who fear that a recession will make people fat. People in the rest of the world have to be shaking their heads in disbelief. As a public service, yours truly is providing a link to the USDA’s nutrition.gov site. Zheesh.
  • Ed Morrissey at Hot Air explains why you might have a hard time finding cute homemade toys for toddlers. Hint: It’s for the same reason the government seemingly doesn’t want you to buy food grown by your neighbors (see second item at link). You’ll also see a vid at the link of a regulation fan mugged by reality.
  • Harry Reid doesn’t work for Obama. Of course not; he works for his re-election.
  • One more reason why the New York Times is financially on the brink — The Boston Globe, part of its New England Media Group, was losing almost $1 million a week earlier last year. Maybe it still is.
  • People who claim the economic crisis now is the most serious since the depression clearly don’t remember 1980-1981. The incoming Reagan administration openly worried about an “economic Dunkirk.” The media objections that followed rang so hollow that they were quickly muted. The prime rate was 20%. Inflation was about 13% — for the second year in a row. January 1981 unemployment was 8.2%. Wanna trade places? Didn’t think so. Also: It took a great leader who realized that giving us more control over our own destinies was the ultimate solution to turning the economy around. Now we have the opposite. I wouldn’t trade places with late 1980, but I sure want to trade president-elects.
