From the Governor’s office:

Nicely done.

Catching Up: WTP and Other Stuff

At the We The People Convention:

  • Former ACORN worker and now clean-elections advocate Anita Moncrief did a fantastic job in her presentation laying out the issues with election integrity and her new initiatives, which I’ll be looking into in the coming days. It started with a standing O from grateful attendees, and improved from there.
  • Seth Morgan’s and Rebecca Heimlich’s Ohio 180 about legitimately turning around Ohio presentation hit home.
  • Ned Ryun did a nice, crisp program on how Get Out The Vote efforts work in the final days of a campaign.
  • Mark, yours truly and many in the assembled crowd had a chance to shake hands and speak briefly with Herman Cain, and there was a relatively brief Dick Morris sighting. Pics perhaps to follow.

In other news:

  • From CBS News (HT Mark Levin’s Facebook page) — “Romney flip-flops on charges against Obama.” Words fail. UPDATE, July 5: Ace says it’s a media fail. I agree.
  • Minnesota State government is shutting down, entirely because Democratic governor Mark Dayton wants to raise taxes, and the Republican legislature doesn’t.
  • Herman Cain has a new no holds-barred video going after Obama.
  • Good economic news — The Institute for Supply Management’s Manufacturing Index increased by 1.8% to 55.3% in June, increasing the sector’s expansion.
  • Not so good economic news, at Hot Air — Construction activity dropped 0.6% in May, and has dropped 6.3% year-to-date.

We The People Update

Filed under: Activism — Tom @ 1:24 pm

Just moments ago, employing stealth techniques and other subterfuge, the guys at WoMD figured out how to get yours truly to the Internet from the deep cave we occupy inside the Columbus Convention Center.

The We The People Convention this morning went quite nice, with informative topics and a full Tea Party Patriots Lunch.

WoMD is live-blogging (but as of yet, not live broadcasting) here.

At Real Clear Politics on June 27 — “Obama Films Campaign Ad In White House, Possibly Violating FEC Laws?” (the need for the question mark is questionable; underlying commentary by Jim Geraghty at National Review is here)

At the New York Post on June 27 (browser window title) — “Disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner takes a hand in picking his potential successor”

Via Matt Cover at CNS News on June 27 — “Two for Price of One: $5 Raffle Ticket Now Buys Dinner With Biden, Too” (President Obama was originally supposed to be the only White House “host”

From Fox News yesterday “Spend-Happy Democrats Say Debt Ceiling ‘Unconstitutional.’” Going to the Constitution, the obvious questions are: “What about ‘authorized by law’ in Section 4 don’t you understand?” and “What about Section 5 (“The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article”) don’t you understand?”

At Expatica today — “Belgian senate approves law on 30 pct women hiring quota”

At Bloomberg yesterday“Republicans Seek Spending Cuts to Slow Economy, Schumer Says.” This was claimed and rebutted last week, Chuckie (“Memo to Chuckie Schumer and Dickie Durbin: 11 GOP-Led States Are Saving Obama’s — and the Country’s — Bacon”).

Positivity: Will and Kate snag $1.7 million in wedding donations for charity

Filed under: Positivity — Tom @ 6:00 am

From England (HT Daryn Kagan):

Jun 22, 2011

Royal newlyweds Prince William and Kate Middleton made it clear that they didn’t want gifts for their wedding.

Instead, they urged fans, friends and family to give to the Royal Wedding Charitable Gift Fund.

Now, according to a tally today on the Prince of Wales’ website, more than $1.7 million (£1,058,367) has been contributed to the fund. And they haven’t even been married eight weeks!

The money will go to benefit the 26 charities personally chosen by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. And the funds will be distributed by the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.

Contributions to the fund were also made via revenue raised from wedding-related projects including sales of the official Royal Wedding Album and a donation made by Mario Testino’s office from the sales of the photograph of the couple printed in the official wedding brochure, according to Prince Charles’ site. …
