Breaking: Fox Reports That CIA Operatives Were Told to ‘Stand Down’ Rather Than Try to Save Stevens on Sept. 11

During the past almost seven weeks, the establishment press has dug itself a deep credibility hole thanks to its disgracefully selective, negligent, and politically twisted reporting on the deadly terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya on September 11 and its determined attempt to defend the Obama administration’s ever-evolving and contradictory stories about the attack’s origins. Along the way, legitimate questions have been raised about the administration’s willingness and ability to protect those who serve us overseas.

Now the question is whether the press will let that hole get even deeper now that Jennifer Griffin at Fox News is reporting that the CIA requests for help during that attack were rejected. The first four paragraphs of the “read the whole thing” report follow:

EXCLUSIVE: CIA operators were denied request for help during Benghazi attack, sources say

Fox News has learned from sources who were on the ground in Benghazi that three urgent requests from the CIA annex for military back-up during the attack on the U.S. Consulate and subsequent attack nearly seven hours later were denied by officials in the CIA chain of command — who also told the CIA operators to “stand down” rather than help the ambassador’s team when shots were heard at approximately 9:40 p.m. in Benghazi on Sept. 11.

Former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were part of a small team who were at the CIA annex about a mile from the U.S. Consulate where Ambassador Chris Stevens and his team came under attack. When they heard the shots fired, they radioed to inform their higher-ups to tell them what they were hearing. They were told to “stand down,” according to sources familiar with the exchange. An hour later, they called again to headquarters and were again told to “stand down.”

Woods, Doherty and at least two others ignored those orders and made their way to the Consulate which at that point was on fire. Shots were exchanged. The quick reaction force from the CIA annex evacuated those who remained at the Consulate and Sean Smith, who had been killed in the initial attack. They could not find the ambassador and returned to the CIA annex at about midnight.

At that point, they called again for military support and help because they were taking fire at the CIA safe house, or annex. The request was denied. There were no communications problems at the annex, according those present at the compound. The team was in constant radio contact with their headquarters. In fact, at least one member of the team was on the roof of the annex manning a heavy machine gun when mortars were fired at the CIA compound. The security officer had a laser on the target that was firing and repeatedly requested back-up support from a Specter gunship, which is commonly used by U.S. Special Operations forces to provide support to Special Operations teams on the ground involved in intense firefights. The fighting at the CIA annex went on for more than four hours — enough time for any planes based in Sigonella Air base, just 480 miles away, to arrive. Fox News has also learned that two separate Tier One Special operations forces were told to wait, among them Delta Force operators.

A friend who emailed me about this story reminded me that President Obama flew to Las Vegas for a campaign event that day as all of this was unfolding, even though, as noted in unexcerpted content, “Any U.S. official or agency with the proper clearance, including the White House Situation Room, State Department, CIA, Pentagon and others, could call up that video (of the attack which was being filmed from drones which arrived shortly after it began) in real time on their computers.”

Heroes Woods and Doherty, who died in the attack, appear to have saved others from dying only because they eventually ignored their orders to stand down.

If this were happening during a Republican or conservative admin — oh, you know the rest.

  1. AC-130U Gunship was On-Scene in Benghazi, Obama Admin Refused to Let It Fire

Whether or not a counter attack by the AC 130 U would have saved all 4 lives ceases to be the issue when you don’t even bother to use the assets you have. That meets the definition of feckless leadership. Obama didn’t even bother to try to save the ambassador. He had real time information via drone and on site assets.

  2. Now apparently, Obama is ducking questions on the CIA requests for assistance. Tom, its time to construct a time line for everyone to contemplate.

    - there were terrorist attacks in the area of the Benghazi consulate and CIA facilities before 9/11/12
    - State Department security professionals determine extra personel and security needed.
    - the State Department requests increased security at Benghazi.
    - WH denies requests for security upgrades and personel.
    - CIA gets wind of chatter about attack on Benghazi.

Note all this information is streaming back to the WH operations center where Obama is given periodic briefings IF he deigned to actually be briefed. When not briefed presumably a written update is given to Obama for his reading at his leisure/convenience. Was it not convenient for Obama to stay informed?

    - 9/11/12 attack on Benghazi consulate facility
    - What is Obama doing on 9/11/12? Sleeping while the attack occurs? Did he or did he not receive the call at the proverbial 3 a.m.?
    - 2 Navy Seals on location go to help Ambassador but not before being told their request was denied, they ignore their orders.
    - The CIA operatives on location request help 3 x. – Request Denied each time.
    - AC 130 U gun ship arrives and paints terrorists with lasers, requests 2 x to kill terrorists – Request Denied each time.

The excuse for not responding each time is that they asked the Libyan government and their request was denied.

Question – When and why did the Libyan government allow an AC 130 U gun ship to fly in its airspace and for what purpose? Keep in mind that the AC 130 U is designed to deal death from the air via all manner of firepower.
    A) They did have permission from the Libyan government but the political optics of Obama’s Soft Power in the M.E. failed totally if they engage in a shootout with terrorists.
    B) They didn’t have permission from the Libyan government but had that AC 130 U violating Libyan air space anyway so what stopped them from pulling the trigger on terrorists to save the ambassador? Obama didn’t want to take the call and so no one was allowed to convey any orders.

    Continuing the time line

    - The public is told via the MSM a demonstration occurred and then escalated over some video.
    - Ambassador Susan Rice repeats the lie.
    - Obama goes to the UN and repeats the lie.
    - Revelations of the actual events start leaking out, prompting more WH and MSM spin. (list the date of each revelation and update the timeline each time more info
    - Obama ducks question reqarding CIA requests – http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2012/10/27/Why-Obama-Didnt-Answer-the-Libya-question

It’s time to drive the bus over this Regime and then back over it repeatedly. How about keeping that time line at the top of the blog until November 6th? Flesh in the links for each of the items and then update the time line as new info becomes available.

David Petraeus: No One In the CIA Ordered Operatives To Stand Down

Who told them to stand down if it wasn’t the CIA as Petraeus said?

  4. More details for the timeline

This runs completely against the current explanation coming out of the White House, which is that Obama did everything he could once he learned of the attack.

You’ll remember that in the second presidential debate, Obama said that as “soon as I was aware the Benghazi consulate was being overrun, I was on the phone with my national security team.” The not-so-subtle intimation is that Obama was stepping up to the protect the U.S. personnel who were in Libya. And in the wakes of their deaths, which weren’t “optimal,” we have been assured that stronger action wasn’t taken stronger because those options weren’t available.

Sec. of State Leon Panetta gave us another version this same excuse, saying: “The U.S. military did not get involved during the attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi last month because officials did not have enough information about what was going on before the attack was over.”

Obama claims he did everything he could ONCE he learned of the attack.

There are three huge problems with the excuses Obama and Panetta are making.

    1. It is now known that the U.S. had two drones in the area — both of which were filming the attacks, sending back feeds in real time, and at least one of the drone may have been armed.

    2. Reports also indicate a Specter gunship, probably an AC-130, was in the area for backup. The gunship could have swooped in and not only leveled the playing field in the match between 50 attackers vs a handful of security personnel, it could have thrown the attack decisively in favor of the security personnel.

    3. The security personnel in Benghazi had painted a laser mark on the attackers outside the consulate. This mark would have made possible a response by the drones or the AC-130 routine had they been allowed to zero in on it. The member of the security team who was on the roof of the consulate, spraying machine gun fire down on the attackers, continually asked for backup from the AC-130. It never came.

Since we had assets on the ground then why did Obama refuse to give the order?

    1) Like with Osama Bin Laden he couldn’t make up his mind because he didn’t want to take the fall IF things went wrong OR
    2) was Obama simply not available to give the order to take that 3 a.m. call OR
    3) was this a deliberate firing through the lines to lay the ground work ala Beruit Bombing to disengage the US presence in the M.E. to increase the price of oil for the AGW agenda OR
    4) was this a cover up of Obama’s original incompetence of not beefing up security in Libya as requested.

Interesting Rumor Concerning General Carter Ham and Stand Down Order

The information I heard today was that General Ham as head of Africom received the same e-mails the White House received requesting help/support as the attack was taking place. General Ham immediately had a rapid response unit ready and communicated to the Pentagon that he had a unit ready.

General Ham then received the order to stand down. His response was to screw it, he was going to help anyhow. Within 30 seconds to a minute after making the move to respond, his second in command apprehended General Ham and told him that he was now relieved of his command.

The story continues that now General Rodiguez would take General Ham’s place as the head of Africon.

so who gave the order to stand down…

  6. More Details revealed

Father of Slain SEAL: Who Made the Decision Not to Save My Son?

Charles Woods, the father of Tyrone Woods, who was killed in the 9/11 terrorist attack at the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya, reveals details of meeting Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton at the publically broadcast memorial service for the slain Americans at Andrews Air Force Base only days after the attack. And, in a recent radio appearance, Woods publicly questions who made the call not to send in back-up forces to possibly save his son’s life, as well as the three other Americans killed in Benghazi (which includes the American ambassador to Libya).

“When [Obama] came over to our little area” at Andrew Air Force Base, says Woods, “he kind of just mumbled, you know, ‘I’m sorry.’ His face was looking at me, but his eyes were looking over my shoulder like he could not look me in the eye. And it was not a sincere, ‘I’m really sorry, you know, that your son died,’ but it was totally insincere, more of whining type, ‘I’m sorry.’”…

…“And now that it’s coming out that apparently the White House situation room was watching our people die in real time, as this was happening,” Woods says, he wants answers on what happened—and why there was no apparent effort to save his son’s life.

Obama’s less than convincing condolence appears as guilt for his (in)action.

The whole thing went down in REAL TIME at the WH situation room, there was no fog of war, they had all the intelligence they needed.

One could connect those two dots as Obama was made fully aware of the events as they happened, and being fully informed made a fateful decision that resulted in the deaths of 4 Americans. Now maybe Obama will take the opportunity take responsibility for the failure of his choices? After a life time of excuses and blameshifting I think the answer has already revealed itself in the deceit he and his flunkies have so far engaged for a month and a half since September 11, 2012.

  7. So it looks like option #1, Obama WOULD not make a choice to save them thus he made a choice to leave them to die. Obama basically engaged in lawyerly argumentation to cover his incompetence.

White House Says It Did Not Deny Requests for Help in Benghazi – But Did Not Issue Orders to Save US Security Officials Either

Notice what is missing from the statement? The administration did not say it issued orders to secure the consulate and protect our ambassador. This is despite the many pleas for assistance coming from the consulate and annex.

Where are the orders Mr. President?

  8. Insert into the time line:

    Earn your Trident every day…

A short distance from the American compound, two Americans were sleeping. They were in Libya as independent contractors working an assignment totally unrelated to our embassy. They also happened to be former Navy SEALs. When they heard the noise coming from the attack on our embassy, as you would expect from highly trained warriors, they ran to the fight. Apparently, they had no weapons, but seeing the Libyan guards dropping their guns in their haste in fleeing the scene, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty snatched up several of these discarded weapons and prepared to defend the American compound.

Not knowing exactly what was taking place, the two SEALs set up a defensive perimeter. Unfortunately Ambassador Stevens was already gravely injured, and Foreign Service officer, Sean Smith, was dead. However, due to their quick action and suppressive fire, twenty administrative personnel in the embassy were able to escape to safety. Eventually, these two courageous men were overwhelmed by the sheer numbers brought against them, an enemy force numbering between 100 to 200 attackers which came in two waves. But the stunning part of the story is that Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty killed 60 of the attacking force. Once the compound was overrun, the attackers were incensed to discover that just two men had inflicted so much death and destruction.

Point 1 – it speaks volumes when 2 Navy Seals can hold off almost 200 men, and kill off 60 of them.

Point 2 – IF Obama hadn’t refused to send help, these men would be alive today and probably so would Ambassador Stevens.

Benghazi attack: Urgent call for military help ‘was denied by chain of command’

“The fighting at the CIA annex [in Benghazi] went on for more than four hours – enough time for any planes based in Sigonella Air base, just 480 miles away, to arrive. Fox News has also learned that two separate Tier One Special operations forces were told to wait, among them Delta Force operators.”

Point 3 – Two men held out 4 hours, more than sufficient time IF they were helped by the AC 130. In fact, IF even just the AC 130 helped with its massive firepower, the Jihadi’s would have given up.

ALLARD: Obama knew about the attack, ignored three requests for help

One of those defenders, Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, was apparently able to use a laser designator to pin-point the location of the mortar that eventually killed him. It would have been an easy shot for American pilots had any been ordered to respond. Another new and critical detail: An American drone was overhead transmitting live video of the battle scene below.

Point 4 – The AC 130 was on station, ready to help and was denied 3 requests to do so.

  9. An important detail on the time line:

Hillary and Barack, The 3AM Failure

Now let’s turn to Barack Obama. One hour into the attack on the “Consulate,” he met with SecDef Panetta and General Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

He knew operational details at least from the 2nd hour to the 4th hour of that prolonged attack. In other words, he personally decided to leave the Ambassador twisting in the wind even though the AC 130 was on station. And who would believe an AC 130 would be vulnerable to attack from ground forces if it unleashed hell on earth as it was designed?

  10. Confirmed Obama watched American heros die…and refused to intervene.

Lt. Col. Tony Schafer told Fox News that sources were telling him that the President was watching the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya in real-time. Schafer told Fox that “only the President” could have ordered backup for the Americans who were under siege by terrorists so the President was most certainly informed of the situation as it was unfolding. “
