Not News: Pastor Goes Off on ‘Enemies,’ Leads Chants of ‘Forward’ With Obamas in Attendance

At the Associated Press today, Darlene “Supine” Superville filed a report on Barack and Michelle Obama’s church attendance “at the historic Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church.”

Ms. Superville told readers that “The Old Testament reading during the service came from the book of Exodus, Chapter 14, in which the Israelites cross the Red Sea as Moses leads them out of Egypt.” That’s nice, but she failed to report how church pastor Ronald E. Braxton used that passage in his sermon. Ben Shapiro at Big Government did (HT Gateway Pundit via Instapundit; links are in original; bolds are mine):

At Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church, Braxton reportedly crafted his speech around Obama’s personal political slogan: “Forward!”

Obama, said Braxton, was just like Moses facing the Red Sea: “forward is the only option … The people couldn’t turn around. The only thing that they could do was to go forward.” Obama, said Braxton, would have to overcome all obstacles – like opposition from Republicans, presumably, or the bounds of the Constitution. Braxton continued, “Mr. President, stand on the rock,” citing to Moses standing on Mount Horeb as his people camped outside the land of Israel.

But it wasn’t enough to compare Obama with the founder of Judaism and the prophet of the Bible. Braxton added that Obama’s opponents were like the Biblical enemies of Moses, and that Obama would have to enter the battle because “sometimes enemies insist on doing it the hard way.”

The service ended with the pastor leading the crowd in a chant of “Forward.” Really.

Memo to Darlene at AP: How did you miss reporting that part about “enemies”? Were you too busy admiring how the church “was draped in the reds, greens and golds found in African Kente cloth” to pay attention? And how can it be that the word “forward” doesn’t appear at all in your report?

Oh, I forgot about the nickname you have done so much to earn.
