  1. Tom,

I ran across this post by Rick Jensen over at right wing news ( http://www.rightwingnews.com/column-2/the-big-puff-obamas-shrinking-deficit/ ) and he quotes “Fiscal Times reporter Tom Blumer”. Is that you?

This piece goes into the many ways Obama has used accounting trickery to obfuscate his spending, and claim cuts to the deficit.

Again I am forced to mention the only real valid metric – how much we added to the federal debt every fiscal year.

Under Obama there have been no years where borrowing was less than under the GOP and Bush.

The 2013 numbers are skewed by the government shut down. The day after fiscal 14 started the treasury added $328 billion to the debt in one day. If you add that debt, which legitimately was from fiscal 13, to the $672 Billion officially posted, you get – $1 Trillion in debt. The same as the 2008 total debt under the Democrat congress under Bush. One that overrode multiple Bush vetoes to get to that mark.

    Cheers,

    O.V.

  2. #1, yep, that’s me.

I tease Fiscal Times columns when they go up, but I don’t get to post them at BB. Thanks for noticing. I’ve only done two so far, and have one pending review.

Your point about the 2013-2014 effective debt crossover is a really good one I’ll have to remember when related matters come up.
