From an unidentified location (HT Daryn Kagan):

A major part of life, especially as one gets older, can be dealing with tragedies, and the nature of one’s response can make all the difference in the world when it comes to coping.

A man named Lee went out by himself for the first time after losing his wife of 43 years, and rather than just sulk over his food, he decided to do something incredible.

He paid for the meal of the couple next to him, leaving them this unbelievably touching note on a napkin:

“You don’t know me, but my beautiful wife of 43 years died last week. Tonight I dined alone for the first time. You remind me of us many years ago. Please allow me to buy your dinner.. It will put a smile on Carol’s face and make me happy… for now. Happy New Year!”

He closed it out with the popular phrase “Pay It Forward,” encouraging the couple to commit random acts of kindness in order to make this world just a little bit better.
