Wednesday Off-Topic (Moderated) Open Thread (031214)

Filed under: Lucid Links — Tom @ 6:05 am

This open thread will stay at or near the top today. Rules are here.

This continues a two-week catch-up effort, where I am mostly getting to items which may be a bit dated but which many readers might have missed. Other topics are also fair game.

March 3, via Thomas Lifson at American Thinker“Corruption Costs Democrats Their California Supermajority”

March 3 — Harry Reid says that (almost) all of these people are liars: “One in Three Say They’ve Been Personally Hurt by Obamacare.”

Feb. 24 – I’m not big on pinpointing a time when the economy will implode, or that it necesssarily will. All I know that what can’t go on forever, won’t.

Others have gotten more certain and more precise, and they seem to be pointing to late in the second quarter of this year. Their predictions are not without basis.

While we’re on the topic, what’s the deal with all the reported suicides of major bankers?

Feb. 23“Corrupt ‘Kids for Cash’ judge ruined more than 2,000 lives.” Actually, that’s just the kids Judge Mark A. Ciavarella sentenced to juvenile detention for clearly minor offenses. Consider parents, grandparents, siblings, other close relatives, and friends, and you’re well into five figures. There is no earthly punishment that suffices for what this man and his partner in crime, Judge Michael Conahan, did.

As noted in nine BizzyBlog posts from 2009 through 2012, the pair are Democrats. Too bad the New York Post story linked in the previous paragraph didn’t note that.

The average duration of unemployment is still about twice as long as it has ever been since the Great Depression:

Evidence continues to accumulate that we’re in an even worse “recovery” in many respects than was seen during the Great Depression. Stay tuned.

Feb. 24 — Sobering: Read this post (“The Coming Enslavement of Communism”) about a conversation at a Wal-Mart store with a Romanian who emigrated to the U.S.

Feb. 24, at Zero Hedge:

In the annals of internet conspiracy theories, none is more pervasive than the one speculating paid government plants infiltrate websites, social network sites, and comment sections with an intent to sow discord, troll, and generally manipulate, deceive and destroy reputations. Guess what: it was all true.

Feb. 25 — If this is how Facebook makes money, the whole thing is a scam, and they deserve to be doomed. More detail here.

Feb. 26, at CNS News – National Association of Manufacturers head Jay Timmons: “If we don’t do something to fix the law, between six and seven million fewer American workers (in manufacturing) will have employer-sponsored coverage over the next 10 years.” I don’t think it will take that long if it isn’t stopped.

March 3 — “Zeke the Bleak” Emanuel strikes again: “Obamacare Architect: ‘Be Prepared to Kiss Your Insurance Company Good-Bye Forever’”
