Bill Clinton Said Hillary Would ‘Make America Great Again’ — in 2008 (And in the Early 1990s, HE Said He Would)

It has become a virtual article of faith on the left that the Donald Trump for President campaign slogan of “Make America Great Again” is a racist dog-whistle.

Wednesday afternoon in Orlando, former President Bill Clinton, husband of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, indicated that he agrees with this contention. That’s marvelous, because, in something many in the establishment press must surely remember but are likely to completely ignore in their reporting (as they already have for so many months), he also said in 2008 that Mrs. Clinton would “make America great again.” Bill Clinton also said that he would make America great again at least twice in the early 1990s. So what does all of this make each of them?

Here is what some of what Clinton had to say on Wednesday (bolds are mine; HT Powerline):

Former President Bill Clinton ridiculed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for his slogan “Make America Great Again” suggesting that it was a false promise to American voters and racially motivated.

“That message, I’ll give you America great again — If you’re a white southerner, you know exactly what it means,” Clinton said.

The former president indicated that Trump’s campaign slogan signaled that he would make white people more culturally dominant over other races in the country.

“What it means is I’ll give you the economy you had 50 years ago and I’ll move you back up the social totem pole and other people down,” Clinton said.

Clinton insisted that Trump was only hurting blue collar workers, suggesting the Republican candidate was only cynically lying to get their votes.

Hmm. Last time I checked, quite a few blue collar workers were non-white. But I digress.

Unfortunately for Bill Clinton, if Trump’s current slogan is racist, what he said his wife would do for the country in 2008 was also racist:

Key quote (at the 0:49 mark):

It’s time for another comeback. Time to make America great again. I know Hillary’s the one who can do it.

At the time, Hillary Clinton was running against Illinois Senator Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination. In light of what Bill Clinton has just said about the Trump campaign’s slogan, what did that make his wife eight years ago?

In the wild fantasies of the fever-swamp left, Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan is just the latest manifestation of a history of Republican racial dog-whistling — which is of course beyond absurd. It’s the Democratic Party which has had the longime romance with racism, up to and including abortions currently being done on black mothers at almost three times the rate of others.

Hillary Clinton, who is as extreme as almost anyone on the planet on abortion, is apparently okay with the disproportionate killing of black babies in the womb — or even partially outside the womb.

Again, what does that make her?

Oh, and for some icing on the cake: Bill Clinton himself used the phrase “Make America Great Again” at least twice — in 1991 and 1992.

What does that make him?
