Analysis: True

From Variety.com:

Elton John: MTV Era Produced Many Untalented Musicians

I would start naming them, but I don’t have all week. Oh, but their videos were (supposedly) cool. Blech.

And these untalented musicians produced a lot of mediocre music — which explains why so many people who weren’t even born then like the music of the mid-1960s, late-1960s and 1970s so much.

UPDATE: For comparative purposes —

The 1980s reads like the minor leagues compared to the 1970s.

  1. Can’t say I agree. A lot of my favorite music is from the 80′s and early 90′s. (I’ll admit everything after that has been pretty crappy.) I like music from the decades before, but the late 1960′s had too much whiny hippy crap and mindless songs glorifying drug abuse for my taste. And The Beatles are vastly overrated. As for the 70′s, way too much disco.

  2. Well, I wasn’t including disco. This is a discussion of music, after all. :->

  3. #2, Fair enough. :) Also don’t agree with update re: minor vs major leagues comment, not even sure I agree with who the links selected as the best artists/bands of either the 70′s or 80′s, but hey to each his own.
