Disgrace: CNN Threatens to Expose Private Info of Reddit-Trump GIF Creator (Updates: Targeting an Underage Teen? CNN Says Not)

Tuesday night, in an appalling exercise of thuggish behavior, CNN revealed Tuesday night that has learned the actual identity of the anonymous Reddit user, a self-described “troll,” who created an animated graphic which President Donalld Trump used in a tweet criticizing CNN as “#FraudNewsCNN.”

That person, when confronted with that discovery, has apologized for creating it and for other posts that person describes as “(insert the usual smears here)”, and has promised not to post anything “offensive” again.

Now read what CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski has reported and done:

Read that last sentence again: “CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.”

This is a brazen, unmistakable and likely illegal (perhaps even at the federal level) public threat of blackmail against a private citizen by a multibillion-dollar news organization.

But it’s worse than that.

Because CNN figured out who it is, you can bet that others who might not otherwise have done so have been encouraged to do the same so they can threaten that person, his/her livelihood, his family, and potentially any personal or business associate.

If this person CNN is bragging about finding — and bragging about blackmailing — suffers any form of harm from others who find him/her, this person would appear to have grounds for civil action against CNN’s deep-pocketed parent (currently Time Warner and potentially AT&T).

As Charlie Martin wrote Tuesday night when CNN’s threat first appeared: “I just didn’t think my opinion of the legacy media could possibly get lower. … I was wrong.”

This matter has brought folks on the right and left together in shared outrage.

Unfortunately for the obsessively anti-Trump network, it also takes the focus off of Trump’s arguably ill-advised tweet and moves it to a news organization which has demonstrated that it won’t hesitate to use mob-like tactics and threats against others in weaker positions.

UPDATE: It could get much worse for CNN if this is true. There are indications, but NOT proof, that the person CNN has threatened is 15 years old, “according to multiple Twitter users.”

CNN knows whether those indications are right or wrong, and owes the public an answer as to whether it threatened a juvenile.

UPDATE 2: CNN’s Kaczynski says the person is a middle-aged man.

  1. I don’t think it was an ill-advised tweet at all. I thought it was hilarious and as usual the reaction to it further exposed the MSM as the buffoons they are. God forbid our Commander in Chief have a sense of humor.

  2. “arguably ill-advised tweet” — That’s my story, and I’m sticking with it. :—>

Whether it ends up being actually ill-advised or actually out-of-the-box genius remains to be seen.

On the downside, Trump bought into the idea that it might have been a 15 year-old and it wasn’t. That gives CNN oxygen and a chance to put the focus back on him again.
