WashPost’s Sullivan Again Calls For End to WH Correspondents Dinner — Because It Helps Trump

Sunday, Washington Post columnist Margaret Sullivan called for an end to the annual White House Correspondents Dinner. She didn’t mention her similar-themed February 2017 column, likely because she filled up Sunday’s allotted space lamenting that the event handed an absent President Donald Trump a PR victory, and with a howler about the performance and alleged integrity of the establishment press.

Make no mistake. Just as a similar crowd knew about Matt Lauer’s nasty, harassaing habits and thought they were funny before he was outed, most of Wolf’s “comedy” routine was well-received by most WHCD attendees, because this is who they are.

Positivity: Cab driver injured in shooting reunites with officers who saved his life

Filed under: Positivity — Tom @ 5:55 am

From New York City:

Updated: 10:21 PM EDT Apr 18, 2018

It’s the second time Jeffrey Cisnero Camacho is meeting police officers Jennifer Nicalek and Sean Higgins, and this time around, it’s a much happier reason.

“Sean and Jenny are my angels,” Camacho said.

With tears in his eyes, flowers in his hands and his family by his side, the 26-year-old father of three is overjoyed to come face to face again with the police officers who saved his life.

Camacho was driving his livery cab in the Soundview section of The Bronx in March, when police said Camacho’s passenger robbed him of $23 and shot at him 12 times, hitting him eight times. Two bullets are still lodged in his leg.

“I said, ‘I swear to God, I don’t have more money,’” Camacho said. “‘Please don’t kill me because I have three daughters and my wife, my mother. I have family at home.’”

Camacho was able to drive himself to a patrol car blocks away, where Nicalek and Higgins were sitting in the car.

“We had no idea what was going on,” Nicalek said. “We just got out and saw somebody that needed help.”

“We thought he was having a heart attack,” Higgins said. “He was holding his chest. Then we saw blood on his inner thigh.”

The officers treated Camacho until an ambulance arrived, cradling him in their arms.

Camacho said he’s forever grateful, and the community where he almost lost his life is celebrating his recovery after weeks of prayers. …

AP Fails to Report That Alfie Evans Was Denied Food and Water Until He Died

NOTE: See the NewsBusters post for an important update and correction.

The Associated Press’s Saturday coverage of 23 month-old Alfie Evans’s death at a UK hospital worked almost as mightily to cover up ugly actions and statements made by the UK courts, medical professionals, and even law enforcement as the parties just mentioned worked to ensure that the boy would die.

Now We Know How the FBI ‘Reviewed’ 600,000+ Emails on Anthony Weiner’s Laptop in October 2016

The answer, based on exhaustive work by Sundance at Conservative Tree House, is by not looking at them at all.

From Sundance’s review of the situation, after reviewing Strzok-Page text messages up to October 27, 2016:

at no time is there any conversation -or hint of a conversation- that anyone is reviewing the content of the emails.  The discussions don’t mention a single word about content… every scintilla of conversation is about how to handle the issues of the emails themselves.  Actually, there’s not a single person mentioned in thousands of text messages that applies to an actual person who is looking at any content.

Anthony Weiner’s lawyer had brought the emails to New York DOJ prosecutor Preet Bharara almost a month earlier. Former FBI Director James Comey’s claim made to Bret Baier at Fox News that the lack of a search warrant was holding things up is false.

However, once the FBI opened the investigation October 28th, they did exactly the same thing they had done from September 28th to October 28th… they did nothing.

A few days later they declared the second investigation closed, and that was that.

They never looked at them.

Then likely-planted articles appeared about “How the FBI might have processed 650,000 emails in Clinton probe,” and “YES, DONALD TRUMP, THE FBI CAN VET 650,000 EMAILS IN EIGHT DAYS”

Well, perhaps they could have, but the evidence presented at CTH indicates that they didn’t.

CNN’s Stelter Whines That Trump Should Have Gone to WH Correspondents Dinner (‘Part of the Job’)

In an online Saturday afternoon CNN column, Brian Stelter criticized President Donald Trump for not attending that evening’s upcoming White House Correspondents Dinner. Darn it, Stelter claimed, doing so is “part of the (President’s) job in the modern media age.”

Positivity: ‘Nothing Short Of A Miracle:’ NYPD Officers Save Tourist, 83, Who Suffered Cardiac Arrest

Filed under: Positivity — Tom @ 5:55 am

From New York City:

April 23, 2018

NYPD officers saved the life of an 83-year-old tourist when he went into cardiac arrest Friday night.

CBS2’s Lisa Rozner heard from the heroes and the man’s thankful family Saturday.

Ron Gargalowitz, of Andover, Massachusetts, had just finished dinner with his family when he collapsed around 6 p.m. on 45th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues.

“I passed out and fell down, didn’t even realize anything. And the officers were very nearby and someone alerted them,” he told Rozner in an exclusive interview.

Good Samaritans flagged down two officers from the Midtown North Precinct. One started administering CPR while the other called for backup.

Within minutes, additional officers responded, helping with chest compressions and bringing a defibrillator.

“It’s incredible the way they reacted and the fact that they knew the right thing to do,” said Gargalowitz.

Three of the officers were former EMTs.

Now, all of them are heroes in the hearts of Gargalowitz and his family. …

1,500-Word NY Times Report on Brazil-Venezuela Border Tensions Fails to Mention Socialism, Maduro, or Chavez

As Venezuela’s socialism-driven disaster deepens, the press’s unwillingness to recognize its cause has gone from being “merely” negligent and outrageous to absolutely disgusting. This obvious failure, which is almost certainly conscious and deliberate, is present even when a journalist’s work portraying the human element of the crisis is otherwise compelling. Such is the case with Ernesto Londoño’s Saturday report at the New York Times about how refugees fleeing that country are overwhelming the ability of towns in northern Brazil to handle them.

CNN’s Stelter Goes Ballistic Over Media As ‘Enemy of the People’ Poll Result

Two Thursday polls showed that the nation’s trust in the establishment press is in the tank. CNN’s Brian Stelter went onto to Twitter to hypocritically go after one result showing that a majority of Republicans see the news media as an enemy of the American people.

Positivity: Police said woman shot hatchet-wielding man outside store on south side

From Tucson, Arizona (HT Bearing Arms):

Saturday, April 14th 2018, 3:49 pm EDT

Police said a woman shot a man who allegedly threatened her with a hatchet outside of a store on Tucson’s south side Friday night.

The Tucson Police Department said officers responded to the area of south 6th Avenue and east Pennsylvania Drive around 8:40 p.m. for a report of a shooting. Police arrived at the scene and located a man on the ground with an obvious gunshot wound, TPD said.

Officers provided aid to the man before paramedics arrived. He was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, TPD said.

Police said the woman who shot the man stayed on scene and complied with police.

Investigators said the woman was leaving a store in the 4400 block of south 6th Avenue. She entered her vehicle and as she attempted to close the door the man approached her and demanded her car keys while holding a hatchet.

TPD said the woman retrieved a handgun and told the man to leave. As the man raised the hatchet, she shot him, police said. She was able to keep the man from leaving the scene until officers arrived. …

Secret Service, White House Refute Ronny Jackson Smears; AP Remains Skeptical

The American people don’t trust the establishment press, as seen in a Pew Research poll result released Thursday showing that only 8 percent of Americans have “a great deal of confidence” that the media will “act in the best interests of the public.” Here is one more example showing why this attitude is entirely justified: The Secret Service, after a thorough investigation in response to anonymous, media-promoted smears, is reporting that it found “no information that would indicate” that a misconduct allegation against withdrawn VA nominee Ronny Jackson is true.
