Joey Votto – Pete Rose

Filed under: General — Tom @ 11:24 am

I don’t do a lot with sports here, especially with the minutiae of baseball (though it’s something I tend to follow).

But I’m hearing sentiments expressed in Cincinnati that Joey Votto is the greatest hitter in Cincinnati Reds history, and must object.

I’m not questioning Votto’s basic greatness, and his work ethic is reportedly admirable.

But to call him a better hitter than Pete Rose was, considerable personal flaws and all, is utterly ridiculous, and a visit to the comparative stats for Rose and Votto demonstrates.

If Votto produces six more seasons like his previous nine, maybe we can revisit this. Until then, give … me … a … break.
