Never Fails … No Mention of ‘Socialism’ in Coverage of Venezuela’s Predicted 1,000,000 Percent Inflation

Along with the understatment of the year:

Life’s a struggle as Venezuela inflation heads for one million per cent

Y’know, “Life’s a Struggle” when you’re falling behind on a couple of bills, or your car just broke down and needs an expensive repair, or your child is acting up at school and you have to beg your boss to let you leave early to go there, etc.

It’s way more than “a struggle” when you have no idea from day to day where your family’s next meal will come from, because you can’t afford to buy anything, even if it’s available; when your country’s primary industry is shrinking to production levels last seen in the 1940s (if not much earlier); when you hope to God you or your kids don’t get sick, because if that happens, there’s no medicine to be had; when at least a million of those who can leave, likely consisting of many of the nation’s best and brightest, have left the country.

This isn’t “a struggle.”

It’s an unspeakable SOCIALIST catastrophe.

Econoclasm Tidbits

New Home Sales were weak in June, falling to the lowest seasonally adjusted annualized level in eight months. Additionally, May was revised down to 666,000 from 689,000.

On Tuesday, the real estate industry’s Existing Home Sales report showed a slight seasonally adjusted decline of 0.6 percent. More troubling is the fact that June came in 2.2 percent below June 2017.

This may be as good as it will get in the housing market as long as new homebuyers are saddled with student-loan and other debt.

Media Bias and Ignorance Brief

Imagine that“ABC, NBC Skip CBS Scoop that Toronto Attacker Visited ISIS Websites, Lived in Middle East.” ISIS has claimed credit for the attack, and a second person has died.

Fact-Check Folly

This one, carried at CBS News but which is Associated Press content, is beyond parody (HT Twitchy): “AP fact-checkers declare the Steele dossier was not a Clinton campaign document.”

It’s a well-established fact that the Clinton campaign paid for the work. Good grief. The excuses AP makes for its lying aren’t worth dignifying with a mention.

Positivity: The consistent pro-life ethic can’t be ‘Calvinball’, prof tells pro-life Dems

From Denver:

Jul 24, 2018 / 10:56 am

Efforts to advance a pro-life ethic need to be “authentic, consistent and beautiful” if they are to combat the “throwaway culture” diagnosed by Pope Francis–and they must reject any similarity to “Calvinball”, the fictional game without rules from the Calvin and Hobbes comic, Charles Camosy, a Fordham University ethics professor, told a conference of pro-life Democrats.

Pope Francis is advancing a “consistent life ethic,” that does not “mean whatever anyone wants it to mean,” said Camosy, who criticized the inconsistencies behind some purported pro-life advocacy in the name of a “consistent life ethic.”

“I’ve even seen people use the consistent life ethic to try to take a pro-abortion position,” Camosy told a conference of the Democrats for Life of America July 21 during their inaugural annual conference in Denver.

“Because there are no rules it risks collapsing distinctions between issues, so that virtually any debate over a government program at all becomes just as important as debate over abortion or nuclear weapons.”

“If this is what the consistent life ethic is, then traditional pro-lifers rightly reject it. I would reject it. It’s just Calvinball.”

In response to this and other aspects of a “politically incoherent culture,” Camosy repeatedly emphasized Pope Francis’ rejection of the “throwaway culture.”

“Pope Francis’ pro-life vision is where we should be focused,” he said, characterizing it as the “key to the future of the prolife movement.” …
