A fourth generation
native to Ohio's 18th Congressional District, Paul Phillips, is a
dedicated family man, successful local attorney and small business owner, and a
United States Air Force Pilot who is committed to helping create a more
prosperous Ohio and a safe and secure America.
Paul Phillips was
born in Chillicothe, Ohio in 1963 to David and Helen Phillips. His father, a prominent 3rd generation
Chillicothe attorney and former member of Ohioıs state legislature and his
mother, the daughter of former Chillicothe Mayor, Forest Harper, still reside
in Chillicothe.
Paul grew up
interested in everything, especially his fatherıs stories about combat missions
over Tokyo in WWII as a B-29 tail gunner.
Early in life, Paul knew he wanted to be an Air Force pilot. Choosing to attend Ohio State
University, Paul successfully earned a four year Air Force ROTC engineering
scholarship. Four years later,
with a pilot slot and a degree, Paul worked briefly as an aerospace engineer at
General Electric in Cincinnati, while waiting for his USAF pilot training date.
Paul met the
demanding challenges of USAF pilot training graduating with ³Academic Ace² honors
and was assigned to Strategic Air Command. At a time when the Cold War was raging, Paulıs mission was
to provide air refueling support to B-52ıs on their nuclear missions. He spent many months living in an
underground alert facility next to his airplane ready to respond for his
nation.
Paulıs exceptional
piloting skills were well established and when he learned that the Air Force
needed their best pilots to fly the new, $270 million, supersonic, B-1 nuclear
bomber, he jumped at the opportunity.
Although the selection process was highly competitive, he was quickly
chosen and would soon be carrying on the family tradition as proud member of
the American bomber crew force.
Paul spent the next
14 years becoming one of the Air Forceıs top B-1 bomber pilots. Students at both the primary training
school and the elite USAF Weapons School voted Paul to be the ³Top B-1 Bomber
Instructor Pilot.² During this time he also earned a Masters degree in
Organizational and Human Resource Management from Abilene Christian University.
In 1999, Major
Phillips was hand-picked for a position as the Chief of Plans for the
Counterproliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction, at Headquarters United
States European Command in Stuttgart, Germany.
With a thriving
military career, including a recent promotion to Lieutenant Colonel, Paul knew
his heart was with his family and roots in Ohio. It was during this time that Paul proposed to his long time
girlfriend Jeannique Nguyen.
He decided to finish
his military career at Headquarters Air Combat Command in Virginia, while
attending law classes at Regent University in Virginia Beach, serving as Deputy
Chief of Weapons and Tactics during the day and attending law school at
night. In 2004, Paul was chosen to
deploy to the Middle East and serve as the Lead Air Strategist for Operation
Iraqi Freedom at US Central Commandıs Combined Air Operations Center at Al
Udeid Air Base, Qatar.
In 2006, Paul
completed his highly successful, 20 year military career and moved to Ohio
where he assumed his fatherıs law practice and established a new firm in
Chillicothe. As Paulıs military
talents were well known and in high demand, he also accepted a job as a defense
consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton, near Wright Paterson AFB, as he prepared
for and passed the Ohio Bar with high marks.
On January 15, 2007,
Paul achieved his proudest moment, when his first child, Lauren Kate came into
the world. Paul and Jeannique are
doting parents to little Lauren who is doing very well.
